What is in season? Why is this important to know? What should we do when things are no longer in season?
While most fruits and vegetables are available most of the year now. Their prices are can be very high when they are not in peak season. The very best time to buy and stick to budget is when they are in season.
Fruits and Vegetables are always better when they are picked at their perfect time of year. They are cheaper and they are more abundant. Some have very short seasons and some around all year. Cherries are often only here for a short 2 to 3 weeks. The biggest problem with fresh fruits and vegetables is you can’t really just stock up. You have to eat them now. So I wanted to share What is in season each month and how to freeze some of those things to have for the winter months.

Most fruits and Vegetables are available year round. Tha being said they are not top quality with the huge flavor but they are around. They are also expensive in the off season.
You can buy large quantities of some of these fruits and freeze or can them. I recommend freezing for lowest calorie options but if you are not worried about that canning is amazing.
A few you can freeze are peaches, berries, cherries. I have tried plums but they weren’t great but they were OK. Here’s is all you have to do wash in a cold water bath with a drop of 2 of lemon, let dry on paper towels flat no layers. Put wax or parchment paper on a cookie sheet and in a single layer put fruit then flash freeze for an hour or 2 then put in freezer baggies. This will IQF (individual quick freeze them so they do not mash together. Most of these things will last 3 to 6 months in the freezer.
Google how to use different fruits and vegetables. We do a lot of salads in the summer and soups in the winter.
